Alice Next Step - Box Hill
My name is Alice and this is my fifth year at Next Step Burke and Beyond Box Hill.
My goals for this year are to take on more leadership responsibilities and to improve my time management. This year, I was elected to be Box Hill’s representative for the Burke and Beyond Participant Advisory Committee. My role is to be involved in how Burke and Beyond delivers and improves its services and be the voice for my peers. I also run our participant monthly meetings and give feedback to staff.
I have completed Certificate 1 and 2 Work Education and Hospitality at Box Hill Tafe and last year I completed Certificate 1 in Transition Education. This year I am completing an Independent Computer skills course at Clota Cottage. This course helps me build my typing and work ready skills as I update my resume and learn how to search and apply for jobs online.
My favourite program is Podcasting at KNLC which I did last year. We recorded our stories on our Podcast ‘Next in Cue’, and my story was all about swimming and Grandad. This year I am building new skills by trying out the KNLC Trade course which I really enjoy. We are making a sandpit and pirate ship to donate to the local childcare.
I also enjoy independent living and the Site Leadership program. We planned a travel training day to the city all together, working in a team, learning how to use the PTV app and Google Maps. We also build our daily living and money skills by doing the washing, shopping and site organization tasks.
I love coming to Burke and Beyond Box Hill and I am excited for this year!
